Why, sometimes I’ve believed...
This is a fabulous quote:
Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. -- The Queen in Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
I tend to believe in impossible things all the time. It gives me hope. Some may call it naivete, but I still believe in a lot of things that I think humans have possibly surrendered. For instance, I believe deep down nearly everyone has some good in them. I don’t believe that people are inherently cruel, even though I see it going on everyday around me.
I feel sorry for most of those people. I wonder:
what must have happened to that lady in front of me who tripped in front of me this morning and then gave me the stink eye like I had played a part in her mishap. I didn’t make the bitch trip! But... maybe her sixteen year-old must broke curfew the night before...or she spilled her coffee in the car.
I don’t know. But, I give her the benefit of the doubt, which means I wait until I get inside my office to giggle.
What, did you think I was a Saint? No. But maybe she needed someone to give her a break. I have a vivid imagination and like to entertain myself by making up stories about people I see on the streets. It’s kind of like using my powers for good instead of evil.
Sometimes when I need a confidence booster, I’ll pretend that I’m of royal lineage. Only in my head, of course, I wouldn’t want people to think I’m crazy. But it makes me walk taller when I need to.
Believing in the small things is what enables me to believe in the bigger ones. If I turn out to be wrong, I don’t care. If I’m going to be wrong...I would have to think it would be best done for the right reasons.
